Māhū in traditional Hawaiian or Kanaka Maoli and Tahitian or Maohi cultures are third gender persons with traditional roles within Kanaka Maoli and Maohi society, similar to Tongan fakaleiti and Samoan fa'afafine and analogous to the Neapolitan femminiello. In modern-day Hawaii, it is a commonly used slang word for transgender persons.
