The Umbrella Japan Laboratory was, at least to the public, a pharmaceutical development laboratory maintained by the Umbrella Corporation subsidiary "Umbrella Pharmaceuticals". Completed in 1987, the center remained open long after many of Umbrella's other facilities, finally closing in March 2004 due to the corporation's bankruptcy.
