Comandarm (also komandarm, commandarm, Russian "командарм" - abbreviated from "командующий армией", "commander of the army") was a military rank of the Red Army until the end of the 1930s. There were two ranks of comandarm, approximately corresponding to "general", or NATO ranks OF-9 and OF-10, respectively. "Comandarm of the second rank" (командарм второго ранга), with the insignia of four diamonds, is 4 ranks above a colonel. "Comandarm of the first rank" (командарм первого ранга), with the insignia of four diamonds and a star, is 5 ranks above a colonel.
