Adygea's economy has traditionally revolved around Black Sea tourism, cultivation of citrus fruits, tea and grapes; oil and natural gas drilling; mining of manganese and copper; and output of a large industrial sector producing wine, metals, machinery, chemicals and textiles, but has in recent years swung very quickly to a more diversified economy. The country supplies much of its own economic needs, primarily oil and natural gas. There is also a significant energy resource in hydropower.
