It seems this is done very similarly to how it was done in years past. The bark is first removed from the tree. The tree is then cut into various pieces depending on what is required, the dimensions of the tree, and what type of wood it is. Modern sawmills focus on efficiency and waste reduction rather than innovative ways to cut the wood.
