A gold maja (pronounced MAH-jah) was part of the Emelanese currency. Five gold astrels make one gold maja. It equaled half a year's income for a poor family. A gold maja was three inches across, resembling more a medallion than a coin. On one side the Emelan coat of arms could be seen, with an image of the Summersea harbor on the back. Daja Kisubo got two gold majas and three gold astrels for her first living metal creation from Tenth Caravan Idaram.
