Not much is known about Emil Broaden, the British Talent known as "The Shade". He had the power of insubstantiality, which allowed him to voluntarily "phase out" of the world, along with anything that he was touching. On January 1st, 1942, at 10 minutes before 7 AM, he sacrificed himself by touching the Doppelganger (Germany's top Talent spy) along with the bomb The Doppelganger was carrying in the West Wing of the White House. This caused the bomb to detonate without harming anyone else in the area, while The Shade and The Doppelganger were instantly killed.
