The Tanaline Propulsion Laboratory was a Federation facility investigating different kinds of uses for propulsion. In 2370, Dr. Nils Diaz was experimenting with warp field techniques while at the Tanaline Propulsion Laboratory. Not all of his work was known through the Federation, as one of his reports had not yet been released. This report was viewed by Ensign Taurik when he was at the Starfleet Academy. This report contained his findings from the experiments. Later, Taurik simulated one of Diaz' techniques while he was stationed in engineering on the USS Enterprise-D. This simulation increased the warp field integrity of the starship by seven percent. (TNG: "Lower Decks" )
