A nephiyl, or nephil-giant, are usually refered to as nephilim. Nephilim are beings who appear in the Hebrew Bible, specifically they are mentioned in the Book of Genesis and Numbers; they are also mentioned in other Biblical texts and in some non-canonical Jewish writings. The Hebrew word נְפִילִים (nephilim) has many possible meanings but in the interest of FFXI the most likely possibility is that the term is generic for "giants". Some expositors believe it may refer more to the ferocity and strength of the people who are referred to, rather than their physical height, though in the Book of Numbers intentional stress on height is apparent, whether metaphorical or actual.
