Naritoki's Journal was written by Ashidaka Naritoki, Emerald Magistrate of Ryoko Owari Toshi until his death in 1123. He maintained the book in the residence of his friend Magda. She was an illiterate, so Magda could not read it. Despite it Naritoki hid the journal inside a samisen he had gifted to her, which had a special compartment. What he written on it could uncover many secrets of the city, including who was the murderer of the writer. Eventually it was discovered by Magda.
