This bit was already deleted, but here's my 2 caps. Fallout land is an alternate earth. The F3 "Chinese aussalt rifle" isn't any variant of the AK-47 we know, but has an impossible collection of features from various AKs from our universe's history. Any new gun or uniform in F3 should stick to this alternate earth style. And, I kinda feel the US was into ray-guns before the M-16 would've been neccesary to develop. Slug throwing type guns should maybe stay 1950 type or even earlier tech; at least those of American manufacture. China, for instance, doesn't seem to be making or using any beam weapons - so maybe other, non-US country's slug throwers are more refined. But other countries would not benefit from the extensive yank small arms innovation in the second half of the 20th century, none
