The 1962 Southern 500 was a Grand National (now Nextel Cup) event held at Darlington Speedway on September 3, 1962. Larry Frank pulled an upset out of his hat, leading eighty-five laps late in the race in route to his only career victory. Junior Johnson finished second, five seconds behind.
