A code-key provided a means of locking doors and accesses – if the requestor/opener could not supply the code in the key, then access was not granted. They were harder to bypass than palm-locks, and it might not have been possible to do so without leaving obvious evidence behind. Note: These were also called "code keys". The Cetagandan Great Seal was apparently a type of code-key.
