After the Second Great War, the Russians attempted to restore the Habsburgs to the throne. President George Patton saw this as a violation of the Monroe Doctrine and ordered the OSS to overthrow the Royal Family in a coup. They did so, but the coup caused tensions between the two giants become so dire that the Cold War, according to many historians including Simon Sebag Montefiore in his book, Dynastic feud: how a restoration nearly started World War III, began the Cold War.
