During production on both the TV series and the film in February 2016, Adam Rudman announced that a video game based on both the series and the film was in development to be released in the summer of 2016. Activision agreed to publish the game, however they had to choose either Beenox, Infinity Ward, Raven Software, Toys for Bob, Treyarch, or Vicarious Visions to develop the game. Eventually, they chose Vicarious Visions to develop all versions of the game. A Universal Odyssey version of the game was also in development, and was set to be developed by Sierra Entertainment, but was cancelled when Activision's CEO, Eric Hirschberg, ordered its cancellation to "make his mark".
