Jonah was held almost as a prisoner by Richard. Jonah was told that he had a condition that made him more prone to illness than other children. Jonah was not allowed to play outside at school and was forced to stay in his room when he was at home. Jonah once ran out of his house and kept running until he was lost. He met the Eighth Doctor, who took him home. After the Doctor did some searching into Jonah's background, he saved Jonah from Richard Sterling and took him to a family who would love him like a true son, instead of making him a test subject.
