If closed prematurely for whatever reason, the puzzle will re-scramble if you have yet to talk to the NPC. If you would like to receive a different starting puzzle, destroy the puzzle box and ask the NPC for another or simply log off. There are six different puzzle boxes, three of which can only be obtained as the result of a master clue.
