Originally designed as pleasure craft, dirigibles have been adapted to more uses as technology has grown. The pleasurable component still drives the use of many dirigibles—the pastime of floating has become very popular among British society's elite, but dirigibles are used in shipping and military applications as well. Unfortunately, technology has not yet managed a way to make travel by dirigible very fast.
