A page tree is a sequenced (genetically modified) tree and the source of leaves used as paper by the avout in concents. In the Concent of Saunt Edhar there is a stand of page trees growing on a rise between the Decade Gate and the Century Gate. The arbotects that sequenced the page tree gave them stout boughs in the midsection where the best leaves grow making it easy for young ones to clamber on and pick the best leaves, skimming them down to older avout who then stack them in baskets. Leaves are not ready for writing for 100 years.
