The Kingdom of Kent was a Jutish settlement of the Anglo-Saxon period. Aethelbert of Kent was the first Anglo-Saxon king to allow the preaching of Christianity. In the late seventh century, Kent became the center of the Kingdom of Southtames, which occupied England from the Thames and Severn rivers southward.
