Pu Yi, or the Xuantong Emperor, was the Emperor of China and 12th ruler of the Qing Dynasty from 1922 to 1967, a period in which he reigned over one of the most prosperous eras in modern Chinese history. He was coronated as the Emperor in 1923 and during his period as Emperor he oversaw the Pacific War, the Second Sino-Japanese War, the westernization and modernization of China, and the rebuilding of the Sino-Japanese Alliance. He was the son of Zaifeng, who was influential in forming the Imperial Constitutionalist state that exists today, and used many of his father's ideas in amending the Imperial Constitution following several minor Communist uprisings in the late 1940's. Having no issue in his life, he was succeeded by his brother Pujie upon his death in 1967.
