A previous EX140 version was sold in the United States in 1989–1991. The major difference between the two is that this European version has a plywood body, while the US version has a solid basswood body. This EX140 features a plywood body mated to a one-piece maple neck with a traditional neck joint with a metal plate. It has a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot position markers. The pickups are an Ibanez EX humbuckers at the bridge and EX single coils in the middle and neck positions. Other components include a synchronized tremolo bridge.
