A creature that lives in the jungles near Adrilankha. They are predators who subsist on small creatures such as (fittingly) rats, and also teckla. Ratbirds hunt in pairs, and stay in contact with one another by periodically calling out to one another. The period of time between calls is consistent for each pair of hunting ratbirds. A clever individual, such as Lar, is able to keep track of time by measuring the time interval between calls for a pair of nearby ratbirds, and then counting the number of times a call is made during a specific period.
