Question 2 of 2002 is a so-called "defense of marriage amendment" that amended the Nevada Constitution by adding a definition of marriage that has the effect of preventing same-sex marriages from being conducted or recognized in Nevada. The Question passed two public referendums as required by the Nevada Constitution, the first on November 7, 2000 with 70% of voters supporting and 30% opposing, and the second on November 5, 2002 with 67% of voters supporting and 33% opposing.
