Delactovine was a systemic stimulant drug. In 2368, Doctor Crusher tried to use delactovine to keep Captain Picard alive when his connection to the Kataan probe was severed. However, no medical method could stabilize Picard's condition, so the USS Enterprise-D crew had to allow the probe's beam to reconnect with the captain again. (TNG: "The Inner Light" )
