Mother Mellus was the Badger Mother of Redwall Abbey in the time of Abbot Bernard, and cared for Dandin when he was young. She assisted with defending the Abbey against Greypatch while Dandin, Mariel, Tarquin Longleap Woodsorrel, and Durry Quill went to Terramort Isle. Mellus rescued Hon Rosie with Flagg after the vermin fled. Mara eventually succeeded her as Badger Mother of Redwall, many seasons later.
