Robert Jacobus Fruin (Rotterdam, November 11, 1823 – Leiden, January 29, 1899) was a Dutch historian, who as a follower of Leopold von Ranke (Wikipedia page [1]) introduced the scientific study of history in the Netherlands, when he was professor of Dutch national history (Dutch: Vaderlandsche Geschiedenis) at Leiden University.
