Like the similar promotional release, Your Guide To ... Star Trek Generations, the video was purchased via the collection of tokens in The Sun newspaper and distributed by WHSmith. A Dutch subtitled version was released the following year in the Netherlands. There was also a German dubbed release titled Your Guide to Star Trek: Der erste Kontakt.
