He played junior hockey with his hometown Regina Abbotts and Regina Capitals from 1944-47. After playing a year (1947–48) with the Boston Olympics, Folk joined the Detroit Red Wings system. He played for the Omaha Knights and the Edmonton Flyers along with two callups to the big club. He played until 1961 in the American and Western Hockey Leagues. He was head coach of the Junior "A" Regina Silver Foxes of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League in 1971-72.
