The USS Philadelphia (NCC-79223) was a Sovereign-class vessel commissioned in 2375. (Star Trek: Independence) Section 31 decided to man a starship with easily 'controllable' officers. They scoured Starfleet for officers that were either sympathetic to the sometimes questionable actions of Section 31, or officers they could black-mail into doing their bidding. The Philadelphia was the result. In September of 2376, the USS Independence engaged in a battle against the Philadelphia. The Sovereign-class was disabled and was forced to return to Starbase for major repairs.
