A mining laser was a small portable low-temperature laser pistol used by personnel on many mining stations, such as the Peragus Mining Facility. Miners used them because they doubled as a defensive weapon, and it could be used to drill through rock without setting fuel barrels and other flammable objects ablaze. Many mining droids used this device in their mining operations. Larger, less portable models also existed.
