Scrod is used for any unidentified whitefish that’s good eating. There is no such fish as “scrod”. It simply means “fresh catch of the day.” The word probably comes from the Dutch “Schrod” - meaning “to fillet”. Scrod can refere to (among others) small Atlantic cod, haddock or pollock whole, 2.5 pound or less. Available whole dressed or as fillets.
