The Space Shuttle Atlantis is a real NASA shuttle, contracted for in 1979 with construction starting in 1980. She was first flown in 1985. In the game, she flies Boston Low, Maggie Robbins, Ludger Brink, Cora Miles, and Ken Borden to the asteroid Attilla, in order to plant the nukes to change Attilla's trajectory.
