The Nexus Long-Range Directed-Energy Particle Weapon, also commonly referred to as simply the Nexus Particle Cannon is a large ship-mounted cannon that fires bursts of charged particle radiation. The technology for such a weapon originated from the Collectors after their weapons were witnessed. The energy required to create a destructive beam is several orders of magnitude more than the amount needed to launch a high-velocity projectile via a mass effect field, so the weapon is fired in short successions to keep from burning out the ship's power core.
