The Vidren-class was a type of strike frigate that saw service with the Cardassian Guard during the 24th century. (Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 2: Starships of the Cardassian Union; The Dominion War Sourcebook: The Fires of Armageddon) The class was designed by Glinn Hotar Peret who also worked on the Thalkar-class project. Peret want a ship similar in size to the Thalkar be heavily armed but remain as maneuverable as a smaller frigate. It entered service two years after the Thalkar but became more popular then the heavy frigate
