The Viking can be recruited as a Northern Viking (upgraded Viking) via a Northern Viking Summon Marble (No Trade) that is received at the end of the Nest of Insects quest line. It requires main character level 32 to use. By using this orb, you will not need to do the Northern Viking upgrade quest line after a Viking hits level 100, saving you some gold and time (although I always found that quest line to be pretty fun).
