The Source of Magic in Xanth is the Senior Demon X(a/n)th. X(a/n)th lost a status game, which upon losing was sent to sleep under his domain until "verbally" freed. This happened roughly 4000 years before the First Wave. While he slumbers the magic from his body siphons into a rock, which the denizens of the Magic Dust Village beat into dust and blow all over Xanth. this is how the magic is apparent in the entire land. As time grew on the magic slowly grew in sophistication. A colony of people and animals migrated into Xanth without knowing it, from their interaction with love springs and animals came a number of croosbreeds including Nagas, Centaurs, Harpies, ect.
