The 1303 (see also 1302) was the European name for the VW Beetle model with a curved windshield and MacPherson struts. The curved windshield was needed to comply with new regulations for cars in the USA. Though never made, it was also planned to add air-bags in the new dashboard. It was known as the Super Beetle in the USA. This model was produced from 1973 to 1975 (model years), with cabriolets being produced until 1980. Models from 1975 onwards had a steering rack, where as earlier models had a steering box.
