MacGyver is an American action-adventure television series that aired on ABC from 1983 to 1993, for a total of ten seasons. The primary protagonist, Angus MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) was formerly an intelligence agent in the mid/late 1970s and an explosives disposal technician in Sumatra in the late 1960s, now residing in Los Angeles. MacGyver primarily works for his close friend and boss Peter Thornton (Dana Elcar), head of the fictional Department of External Services (DXS) in the first season and projects/executive director of the civilian Phoenix Foundation for the remainder of the series, as a problem-solver, using his considerable skill, intelligence, and resulting crazy contraptions to fight crime around the world.
