The Republic of Asturias is a small state located in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. Bordered on the north by the Cantabrian Sea, Galicia to the west, south and east by the United Republic of Castile and Leon. It became independent after the withdrawal of the Spanish Army in 1985 but has spent much of his life well divided by internal conflict or occupied by foreign forces.
