In the mirror universe, the Gorlan uprising was a revolt on the planet Gorlan by the inhabitants, who disliked the presence of the Terran Empire in their territory. The uprising killed many Terran soldiers, but the starship ISS Enterprise arrived at the planet in 2264 and Captain James T. Kirk (who had recently gained command of the vessel by assassinating Captain Christopher Pike) ordered an orbital bombardment on the planet, killing almost every living thing on the planet's surface and turning the surface into rubble and glazed glass. Further bombardment from the imperial ship caused the planet to crack open like an eggshell and killed all who did not escape Gorlan. Only a few thousand did escape the planet and they became space pirates.
