The Grand Duchy of Basilisk was a Manticoran peerage created with the annexation of Basilisk into the Star Kingdom. Because she was born in the same year as the system was annexed, then Crown Princess and later Queen Elizabeth III was made the Duchess of Basilisk. (HHA2.3: QG) This was a way for her father, Roger III, to support the Star Kingdom's claim to the system and the local wormhole terminus. The planet Medusa was specifically left out. (Companion)
