As recounted by Sophie Rogan when kidnapped by Agnes Reid of the Resurrection Men, the incident began in 1998, when Curien began research on creating new life. These "zombies" were bred to be disposable soldiers, cheaper and less controversial than human fighters. They were created with man's fear of mortality in mind. The creatures soon rebelled and began to desire the death of all human life. The number of casualties in the initial attack appeared to be great, with Rogan one of the few unaffected. AMS agents Thomas Rogan and G eventually arrived to deal with the initial wave, but the aftermath of the incident continues to affect the United Kingdom further on in the series.
