He played junior hockey for the Humboldt Indians, Estevan Bruins, and the Flin Flon Bombers from 1956 to 1959. Meissner turned pro with the Boston Bruins in 1959-60. He enjoyed but limited success with the Bruins, scoring but 8 goals in 135 games over three seasons while playing as a defensive forward. In 1963 he was traded to the New York Rangers with Don McKenney for Dean Prentice. However, his NHL career was all but over as he only played in 36 games for the Rangers over two seasons. Starting in 1964-65, he played eight seasons in the minor pros and retired in 1972.
