The Space Race is a proud tradition on Shanazar, with residents being plucked into space without their consent. One such unwitting participant was Sonic the Hedgehog, who was beamed aboard Skorrg's ship, with Amy Rose being used as a hostage. Upon their arrival, Skorrg smugly addressed himself as their "master" and allowed his crew to shoot the angry hedgehogs. He then beamed Sonic down to an asteroid to begin the race against Turbo.
