Knopf, Inc., an imprint of Random House, Inc., is the publishing house responsible for the publication of the second (hardcover) edition of Eragon and the three subsequent books in the Inheritance cycle - Eldest, Brisingr, and Inheritance. Knopf's logo is a distinctive, stylized borzoi. Inheritance author Christopher Paolini landed a three-book deal with Knopf after novelist Carl Hiaasen discovered and was impressed by the self-published first edition of Eragon. The Knopf hardcover edition appeared in August 2003, and become a New York Times bestseller.
