Edith Blades Pinkard was the widow of Leroy Blades, with whom she had two sons, Frank and Willie. After her husband's death, she was courted by Jefferson Pinkard, whom she eventually married. In 1943 she gave birth to Raymond, Pinkard's only child and her third son.
