Barton Hill is an area in the east of Bristol. In the postwar period, the area was designated a redevelopment area and proposals were drawn up in the 1950s to redevelop the area for housing. The first tower block to be approved was Barton House, which contained the heating facilities to power the rest of the estate, in 1956. Construction began the following year on the adjacent block Glendare House.
