Fred Makin was the driver of a minibus to a pantomime in December 1970. The party was supposed to comprise of Street residents but, depressed at the events surrounding the death of Joe Donelli, they all cried off with the exception of Albert Tatlock. The tickets were given to a group of underprivileged children who were wild in the extreme, banging on the windows and creating a riot inside the bus as it waited on the Street for Albert. Emily Nugent volunteered to go with them, fearing Albert couldn't cope alone but when she got back to the Rovers afterwards, bedraggled and exhausted, she told everyone that the real trouble at the event had been caused by Albert who was more of a handful than all of the children put together.
