The unnamed Boy was a biker customer in the Kabin who called in to purchase a birthday card for his girlfriend. As Dawson's Cafe had just opened next door, Mavis Riley was keenly attuned to the type of customer they would be attracting from now onwards and remarked to Rita Fairclough that the lad might get oily fingermarks over the cards. She replied that they most were safely wrapped in cellophane. The boy bought an expensive boxed one for £1.50, leaving Mavis to wonder where he had got the money from.
